Monday Mixtape Madness!! #4

Yo yo yo!! What it is everybody? I’m back with another segment with some hot new music for y’all. Let’s check them out!!

1st up is Grand Hustle artist B.o.B. His latest mixtape EPIC, which stands for ‘Every Play Is Crucial,’ was released Nov. 28th. Overall it’s a pretty good mixtape. I’m not a hardcore B.o.B. fan but I do like some of his music. His flow along with his voice is unique to me. I think this is worth a listen.

Suggested Tracks: Epic ft. Playboy Tre & Meek Mill, Boom Bap ft. T.I. & Mos Def, Welcome to the Jungle

Next we have Young Money rapper Tyga. He just dropped his new mixtape #BitchImTheShit last night at midnight. This mixtape is basically him going in over some club type beats, which works rather well with his word flow. He also introduces his Last King artist Honey Cocaine. This is mos def worth a listen & dL.

Suggested Tracks: B**ch Better Have My Money ft. YG & Kurupt, In This Thing, F**k With You

Last we have the Shooter himself, Swagga Boy Los. His new mixtape ‘The Crown Ain’t Safe’ was released earlier today. If you don’t know who this is, then you better find out. His lyricism and metaphors are just crazy. However, the production on most of the tracks is pretty mediocre. He really needs to find some better beats. Take a listen anyway because it’s worth it for the lyrics.

Suggested Tracks: King Los ft. Lola Monroe, What’s Good, Get It ft. XV, Vintage Rolls Royce Interior

Meek Mill & Grand Hustle?

Yurp!! What’s good people? I just recently came across this story and found it very interesting. MMG artist Meek Mill was originally signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint back in ’08. However, due to the King’s ‘extended absences’, the deal did not work out the way either of them wanted to. For more details, click on the link below.

Monday Mixtape Madness!! #3

Yurp! What’s good everybody? I know it’s been awhile since I’ve done this segment. I’ve just been hella busy to sit and actually listen to some mixtapes. Buuuut I’m back and I got some that you might like so check it out!

-Boy Genius

First up we have G.O.O.D. Music artist Kid Cudi. His mixtape ‘Rap Hard’, which dropped Nov. 13, is actually an unreleased demo from 2001. The lyrical content has more of an old school ’90s rap feel to it. The beats are pretty nice too. It’s kind of different from his music today, but if you like Kid Cudi now, then I recommend you check this out.

Suggested Tracks: Pimpin, I’m That, Get Ya Mind Correct

Next we have G-Unit soldier Lloyd Banks’ mixtape ‘Cold Corner 2’ which dropped Nov. 8. Honestly I hadn’t really heard any of his music lately. Last song I heard w/ Banks was Start It Up. I thought he had fell off a little bit, but after hearing this I think he still got it. He just been lowkey to me I guess haha. I think it’s worth a listen, maybe a dL too.

Suggested Tracks: 123 Grind ft. Prodigy, Make It Stack ft. ASAP Rocky, Keep Your Cool

Cold Corner 2

Last we have Chicago native Yung Berg. Again, he was another dude I hadn’t really heard anything from lately. His latest mixtape ‘Reality Check’ which dropped Nov. 11 is pretty nice though. He’s talking about some real personal stuff he’s went through in the recent past. Whoever this Mia Rey girl is on some of the hooks/choruses is nice with the vocals. Y’all should listen to it for real.

Suggested Tracks: Heart of the City ft. Mia Rey, Young Ni**a Mistakes ft. Young Chu, Real Life

I gotta say I’m slightly disappointed, but all good things come to an end in order for more good things to begin. I’m posting the last 3 episodes which is split into 3 parts of his birthday celebration out in Las Vegas. Enjoy Taylors!!

Monday Mixtape Madness!! #2

Yurp!! What’s good people? I’m back for the 2nd installment of Monday Mixtape Madness. This week I’m only doing two because I couldn’t find an extra one that I liked for real. But yeah, let’s check ’em out!

-Boy Genius

1st we got Bow Wow with his newest mixtape “I’m Better Than You” which dropped Sept. 27. I gotta admit, dude has stepped his game up. Ever since coming to Cash money in ’09, he has been able to do his music the way he wants to,  just as it should be. The one thing that gets me though is how he lets the beat ride out for like a minute in some songs. C’mon Bow, add another verse, get a feature, talk or something! Haha nah but other than that, the mixtape was straight. I feel like he really is Underrated.

Suggested Tracks:

Heaven, Mary Jane, Lame ft. Jermaine Dupri, 70 Bars & No Hook

Bow Wow – I\’m Better Than You

via HotNewHipHop

Next we have a new artist (well she new to me anyway), female rapper Iggy Azalea. Her mixtape “Ignorant Art” dropped Sept. 28. I just listened to this today. At first I didn’t know what to think. After awhile I was starting to feel it. Her beats are raw & edgy, and her flow is kinda sick. I’m not sure it fits her voice though, and her lyricism could use a little work. I believe she has some potential.

Suggested Tracks:

Backseat, Treasure Island, Drop That

Iggy Azalea – Ignorant Art

Drake – Headlines (Official Video)

Check out October’s Own newest music video “Headlines!!”

Monday Mixtape Madness!! #1

What’s up music lovers?! This is a new section I done came up with called Monday Mixtape Madness (as you can see haha). This is how it works: every Monday I’m gonna do a short review of 3 mixtapes that have came out in the past week. Just to be clear, these will be my personal opinions so please don’t catch feelings if you disagree with me alright? Alright, cool. Let’s get started!

-Boy Genius

1st we have upcoming female r&b artist Jasmine Villegas. Her mixtape, “S(he) Be(Lie)ve(d)” (see the play on words there), was released Sept. 22. It’s pretty much a compilation of mixed emotions dealing with the male species (surprise! lol jp). Personally I think the whole mixtape is hot. She has a very melodious voice. Put that with some nice lyrics and a hot beat  and pow! You have a guaranteed banger. I’ll post the link to her website so you can hear it for yourself.

Suggested tracks:

So Silly ft. Tyga, Jealous, Just A Friend, Angel, Masquerade

Jasmine Villegas – S(he) Be(Lie)ve(d) mixtape

Next up: Taylor Gang’s Chevy Woods featuring Wiz Khalifa. “The Cookout”, which dropped Sept. 24, is exactly what you would bump… well, at a cookout haha. Real mellow. Something to vibe to. Despite 9 of the 11 songs featuring Wiz, Chevy holds his own. The lyrical content is classic TGOD ish. If you’re not already a fan of the style then it might be a little hard to get into it. Otherwise light one up, grab a plate and just chill.

Suggested tracks:

Napkins, The Cool, Down, Cassette, Aunts N Uncles

Chevy Woods ft. Wiz Khalifa – The Cookout mixtape

via HotNewHipHop

Last one of the day: Cali’s jerkin/rapping group The Ranger$. Members Day Day, Julian & Langston dropped “That Mixtape” earlier today. After listening to this, you won’t think of them as just dancers. They clearly show off their lyrical skills on this joint. They also have some tracks for the ladies. Don’t worry though devoted fans; they still have some bangers you can rock to in the club or at a house party.

Suggested tracks:

Take A Bow, She Coo With That, We In Here ft. Lil Twist,  She All On Me, Come On Baby

The Ranger$ – That Mixtape

Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor 5th Anniversary

For those of you who don’t know (if you’re fans you should), today officially marks the 5 year anniversary of rap/hip hop artist Lupe Fiasco’s first album release on 1st & 15th/Atlantic Records, Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor.

Just a little background info, the album debuted at #8 on the Billboard 200 & received 4 Grammy nominations, including one for Best Rap Album. it included production from The Neptunes, Kanye West, Mike Shinoda, Jay-Z & Fiasco himself. The lead single for Food & Liquor was “Kick, Push”, followed by “Daydreamin'” (feat. Jill Scott) & “I Gotcha” (Prod. by The Neptunes).

Fiasco digitally re-released an anniversary edition of Food & Liquor on Sept. 13 which includes 4 bonus tracks, as well as the videos for “I Gotcha” & “Daydreamin'”. He also did a live webchat earlier today in honor of the occasion, answering questions and just talking to his fans. You can click on the following link to check it out if you missed it:

In the meantime, here is the video for the lead single “Kick, Push”. Enjoy people!

The King’s Back… For Real This Time

Yeah you read it right; the self-proclaimed King of the South is out of jail, no b.s. this time. T.I. has been released from the Arkansas prison and taken to the halfway house in Atlanta, where he shall reside until the 29th of this month. Afterwards he will serve a year of probation.

They had let him go free last week but had taken him back on suspicion of conducting “unauthorized business” on his tour bus, which was apparently a violation of rules regarding his release.

I’m glad that Tip is finally out so he can get back to making his music. Personally he is still one of my favorite rappers, despite his past mistakes. I mean yeah, I was pissed when I heard he had went back after his one year sentence was served last year. However, we all make mistakes & I am no one to judge. But please Tip, don’t go back again over some dumb s**t!!

Oh, here’s a classic T.I. video. One of my favorites…
